African Heritage Society 2007

The AHS is a not-for-profit organisation that constitutes both individual and corporations as its members. The AHS aims to place Africa at the centre of the business strategy where processes around understanding, shaping, documenting and promoting best business practice are implemented. AHS does not disregard concerns of sustainable profitability, social responsibility and black empowerment and thus has initiated a comprehensive process to understand the African experience, African history, African Values and both African environmental and political concerns

Agent of enterprise development

Enterprise Development is a component of the South African government’s broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) initiative. Enterprise Development is intended to drive the transfer of skills from large companies (the Principal) to black-run companies (the Beneficiary).  In order for the companies to gain BEE points, the Enterprise Development provider is verified by a BEE Rating Agency. Raizcorp is a verified agent of enterprise development

ARIZE

The Raizcorp Division responsible for enterprise development programmes (South Africa only). In Arize, large corporate companies, known as Principals, pay Raizcorp to provide Enterprise Development services to black-owned entrepreneurial businesses (the Beneficiaries)

BBBEE

Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment is a policy of the SA government which encourages companies to help transform the country. BEE is about broad-based activities that are incorporated in all areas of South African workplaces. The BBBEE strives to ensure that fair and just opportunities and provided to previously disadvantaged South Africans

BBBEE compliance

On January 6 2004 Government passed into law the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act, No. 53, 2003.
The system tries to ensure that favourable Procurement and buying from businesses that are compliant takes place, since that enhances their own BEE Scorecard under the Preferential Procurement element provisions
BBBEE Compliance is expressed in terms of Eight Recognition Levels. These are:

Non Compliant Contributor (BEE Recognition Level: 0%)
Level Eight Contributor (BEE Recognition Level: 10%)
Level Seven Contributor (BEE Recognition Level: 50%)
Level Six Contributor (BEE Recognition Level: 60%)
Level Five Contributor (BEE Recognition Level: 80%)
Level Four Contributor (BEE Recognition Level: 100%)
Level Three Contributor (BEE Recognition Level: 110%)
Level Two Contributor (BEE Recognition Level: 125%)
Level One Contributor (BEE Recognition Level: 135%)

Level Four is considered fully Compliant

BBBEE points

Enterprise development makes up one element of the BBBEE scorecard which illustrates the elements  that may glean points towards BBBEE Compliance.
Enterprises that have an annual turnover of more than R35 million may glean a maximum of 15 points plus 5 bonus points.
QSEs (Qualifying Small Enterprises ) that have an annual turnover of between R5 million and R35 million, may glean 20 points from this element. (QSEs can choose to comply with any 4 (four) of the 7 BEE elements)

BEE scorecard

BEE compliance is measured by means of a scorecard. The scorecard is based on various elements and your company is measured out of a maximum of 100 points. The BEE scorecard focuses on 7 main elements within the South African workplace. These 7 elements look at Ownership, Management Control, Employment Equity, Skills Development, Preferential Procurement, Enterprise Development and Socio-Economic Development and Sector specific contributions.

Codes of Good Practice

BEE Codes of Good Practice are functional in the development, evaluation and monitoring of BEE Charters, initiatives, transactions as well as other implementation mechanism. The BEE Code of Good Practice encapsulates the fundamental principles and necessary considerations in the form of precise explanations
The final BBBEE Codes of Good Practice are now operational as of the date of publication in the Government Gazette, No. 29617, on 9 February 2007.

Council for Higher Education (CHE)

The CHE is South Africa’s sovereign statutory body responsible for advising the Minister of Higher Education and Training on issues pertaining to higher education policies and the aspiration for the implementation of higher education standards and training

The Interpretive Guide to the codes of good practice has been developed and implemented as an aid to interpret BEE regulations for BEE practitioners in an aim to gain clarity and understanding of the codes.  This guide provides practitioners a complete and interpretive understanding of the Codes 000 to 800 as well as statements laid down by the act

Principal

A Principal is a corporate or company that partners with Raizcorp in order to fulfill their strategic need to invest in enterprise development. This allows the Principal to improve their BBBEE compliance and further their strategic objectives.

Prosperator®

Unique performance measurement intranet system

MOVA (Measurement Of Value Add). MOVA is used, among other things, to record goals and submit
weekly reports, and to track performance and make decisions regarding the beneficiaries’ progress. Raizcorp therefore generates the reports which you will need to submit to your rating agency.

Young Global Leaders

The World Economic Forum acknowledges and pays tribute to the 230 young professionals from a variety of disciplines and anointed as the Young Global Leaders of today. World Economic Forum (WEF)
